Lily-Rose Depp Defends Bold Scenes in The Idol

In an upcoming HBO series titled The Idol, Lily-Rose Depp finds herself at the center of controversy due to the inclusion of daring sex scenes.

However, the 23-year-old actress stands firmly by her artistic choices, emphasizing their purpose and relevance.

Working alongside The Weeknd, who stars in the series and co-created it, Depp takes on the role of a young female pop star ensnared by a Los Angeles club owner with a dark secret—he is a cult leader.

While some viewers have criticized the show’s portrayal of sex scenes, deeming them excessive and exploitative, Depp passionately defends their presence, citing their crucial role in telling the story.

These sex scenes are deliberate and meaningful,” she expressed in an interview with Vogue Australia. “They aren’t gratuitous but rather integral to conveying the narrative.

Depp also expressed her excitement in exploring the complexities of her character within The Idol. “I was eager to take on a challenging and distinctive role,” she revealed. “I wanted to delve into uncharted territory and discover an aspect of myself I hadn’t encountered before.

The Idol, a six-episode limited series, boasts a creative collaboration between The Weeknd and Sam Levinson, the creator of the acclaimed series Euphoria.

Alongside Depp and The Weeknd, the cast includes notable names such as Troye Sivan, Debby Ryan, and Melanie Lynskey.
